lyrics

Perhaps I could borrow one?

Surely,
Those who’ve had more time to collect
Can spare a few
Recollections,
And redirect a memory
From their treasure-trove.

Not the stories themselves,
But the living of them.

A temporary transplant
More plastic than plant
But close enough
From a distance.

You see,
My memories are all used up.
I’m bankrupt.
Left to search the twilit corners of
Dusty thoughts and mothballed memories:
My hidden stash.

But alas...

Perhaps I could borrow some?
A few memories for when the going gets rough.
Just enough
To fill in the cracks that
her absence left
To darn the holes in my head
Like a patchwork quilt
Of moth-torn silk:
Mother’s memory

If Only…
